Tutorial: Baby Linen Bib with a Hexagon Panel

This is pretty much a step-by-step process of how to make this hexagon baby bib. It really is a quick and fun way to create something cute for your Little One. I am using Amy's from NanaCompany bib template for this tutorial. There are two reasons for that. Firstly, I really like the particular shape of this bib and it was the original bib I made for my Little One, but unfortunately it got lost. Secondly, for a few reasons we still don't have a printer at home (I know, it's crazy) after our Little One destroyed the old one a few months back. I cannot really design anything at the moment that requires printing or scanning. This shape is really great and suits older babies from about 4-6 months when they need it the most. I have designed a smaller bib of a different shape for my Little One and it was perfect for him while he was a newborn. I might write a tutorial for that later. OK, let's get started.

For this bib, as the name and the photo suggest, you will need to make 18 hexagons. They are fun to make and you can get really creative here. Once you have 18 1" hexagons, sew them into a panel, as shown in the photo above.

Hello My Sweet Friends!

It feels like it's been so long since my last post here and I miss it so much. With my Little One turning into a real boy and giving up his day sleep and the summer school holidays, I find it more challenging to dedicate any time to my blog than ever before. I am spending snippets of my spare time sewing and reading, but mostly it's all about chasing my Little Monkey. But I do come here regularly and I am so grateful to you for visiting me, leaving your comments, asking questions and following my sewing adventures. Your support and encouragement is very important and dear to me. Thank you all so much! I hope you are having a good and very creative beginning of the year. I cannot believe that half of January has gone by already.

Cute Animals Baby Bib

I think a baby or toddler can never have too many bibs. What do you think? Our Little One has a whole stack, but most of them are store bought that were given him when he was born. But for some strange reason he takes them all off during his meal times. The only ones he wears happily are the ones that I made him. I honestly have no idea why. My only guess is that he does not like velcro. My bibs have snaps or ribbons to tie them. But anyway, I have a few more bibs on my To-Do list, but this one can be crossed out. I am really happy with how all the hexagons came together to create this lovely collage. I added a tiny touch of pink to this bib because I am afraid that the day when my Little One will insist on his own colour choices (that would not include pink, most likely) is not far away.

Small Finishes

Do you like DIY fabric covered buttons? I do. There are so many great uses for them. Lately I have made some fridge magnets, needle minders and hair bobby pins. So quick and easy, and very useful too. I made cards to hold the hair pins using some pretty scrapbooking paper and pieces of ribbon.

Baby Bib

A last minute present for a little girl. I was meeting a lady I used to work with who had a baby girl a month after me. I felt like making something special for the Baby. What could be better than a bib? They always are useful and if they are pretty, it's a plus too.

Bib, Bag and Pouch - a Baby Set

All made out of scraps. Oh, I love tiny scraps of fabric! So many things you can make out of them and at the end you are left with a lovely feeling of achieving something really good. For all the three things I have made I did not cut into any new fabrics, I only used the scraps from my box, apart from a tiny piece of Milk, Sugar and Flower - a cute kitten on the pouch.

Sewing Late at Night

It was last Friday evening when the baby was peacefully asleep and I didn't feel sleepy at all for some odd reason (even thought I have been quite sleep deprived lately). I felt like a bit of hand sewing, making something sweet but useful and quick. A baby bib! They always come in handy.

For a Newborn

Teeny weeny feet. I have made a set for a newborn baby of three burp cloths and one small bib in a simple but joyful grass green polka dot on white muslin.

Simplicity of Hand Sewing

A while ago I bought a wonderful book Sewn by Hand written by Susan Wasinger. What appeals to me in this book is that every single project is sewn entirely by hand. No sewing machine required, no precise seams, just the simplicity of hand stitches. The weather hasn't been great lately, wet and gloomy day and night, so it was a nice opportunity for me to work on a small project from this book. It's a baby bib. What gives this bib a very unique look is a simple running stitching and the frayed edges.

Humpty Dumpty...

...sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. Sounds familiar? A while ago I bought a single fat quarter of this pretty fabric with nursery rhyme characters. I just liked the subtle colours and simple drawings on it. I wish I bought more... oh, not again.

Neutral Colours and a Birdie

Just a quick post. The last one for May. The Winter is finally here but for most of you it's the long awaited Summer. Wanted to show you one more finished project. A drawstring bag and a bib for a baby. Neutral colours and a small summery print make it perfect for both girls and boys.

It's Lunchtime, Baby!

Phew! It's finished! At last! It took me sooooo long to finish this project. I don't know why but I kept putting it aside after just a few stitches over and over again. But earlier this week it all came together and I managed to finish this project in pretty much one go. I'm glad I did.
