Cute Animals Baby Bib

I think a baby or toddler can never have too many bibs. What do you think? Our Little One has a whole stack, but most of them are store bought that were given him when he was born. But for some strange reason he takes them all off during his meal times. The only ones he wears happily are the ones that I made him. I honestly have no idea why. My only guess is that he does not like velcro. My bibs have snaps or ribbons to tie them. But anyway, I have a few more bibs on my To-Do list, but this one can be crossed out. I am really happy with how all the hexagons came together to create this lovely collage. I added a tiny touch of pink to this bib because I am afraid that the day when my Little One will insist on his own colour choices (that would not include pink, most likely) is not far away.

I have been doing a lot of English paper piecing lately. A lot for me anyway. This fabric with tiny animals is perfect for fussy cutting and the pictures fit nicely on 1" hexagons. I always wanted to make some linen hexies with embroidery and it still is on my list, but with some different designs. This time I decided to add simple writing and I am very happy with how the whole idea turned out.

For the back side I used my husband's old shirt. I started collecting his worn out shirts because most of them are made of high quality cotton and it's only the sleeves that really get worn out. The rest of the shirt/cotton is generally in a very good condition. This particular cotton is very soft and matches the colours of the bib nicely. I like how you can see all the tiny stitches on the back, it gives a lovely texture to the bib.

I love this photo! That little hand...so sweet and dear. I was trying to take a photo for the Instagram, but my Little One had a better idea. He wanted to play. Play on top of the hexagons. Apparently, when they are stitched together they make a nice road for small cars. After a few failed attempts I decided to keep this photo. My Little One has just seen his new bib and I wish you could all hear the happy squeal he has made and started asking "What is it?", pointing his tiny finger at one picture after another and making the sounds these animals make. I think he really approves of his new bib.

This is for the first time ever I quilted a hexagon panel by hand. I used Gütermann top stitch polyester thread in light blue. Not long ago I had a small test of a few threads that I use for quilting. I am going to write a short post on it soon. Stay tuned and have a wonderful weekend! Larisa xox

    1. Thank you, Dina! He really likes any kind of animals (pictures, drawings, real ones...) Oh, and he loves flowers! So I think I still can make a couple of quilts and pillows for him with flowers, some pink colour and some cute animals. :-)

    1. Thank you, Joanna! It was perfect, but unfortunately, this bib got lost on our trip to Singapore last week. :-( The hexagons are 1'' each, just the right size for fussy cutting. It was a nice project to work on. Now I am thinking if I should make exactly the same one or a different bib.
