Felty Goodness

Breakfast anyone? Eggs and tomatoes and mushrooms. My Little One loves playing with kitchen utensils. Pots and spoons and bowls are always on the kitchen floor while he is mixing something and filling them with different things.

Katia of Plushka Design Studio wrote a wonderful free tutorial for these eggs on her blog. When I saw them, I knew that I wanted to make one or two for my boy. The morning I gave them to him, he was so happy that we spent the whole morning frying eggs over and over again. Katia also wrote a tutorial for a tomato and mushroom. You can find the templates and tutorials here.

Insipired by Katia's work and by the fun of sewing with felt, I decided to make a few more goodies. The first one was this juicy pear. I love the soft shade of this warm yellow colour, and combined with the quality 100% wool felt, it makes a very nice tactile toy. Katia has been working with felt for years now and has a lot of experience and great tips to offer. One of them is instead of cutting out both shapes and then stitching them together, do this - "place the cut out shape on a piece of felt and stitch on. Trim the excess felt after the top side stitched on". It gives a nice even edge to the finished shape.

I also made a cut apple and called the two pieces "a very sweet pear". They became very popular for an entire day. We all had to eat the apple and pear non-stop.

Well, I did not stop there and added a carrot and a strawberry to our menu. Now we can cook a few different dishes, we can go shopping with a small shopping trolley, we can feed Mummy or Daddy or big brother and simply fiddle with these lovely toys in our hands. The funny things is that the shopping trolley we bought for out Little One came with a set of plastic foods, that we did not really like. It did not take long for them to be destroyed by biting and squeezing them, so we threw them away and are now slowly replacing them with the toys made of natural wool. Much safer and much nicer.

I truly enjoyed making all these pieces. Felt is fantastic to work with, so soft and cozy. I have a few more ideas that I would love to give a go to. I am also planning to write a tutorial for the ones I have made so far. Stay tuned if you are interested. You can always subscribe so you won't miss some free tutorials. Have a wonderful day! 1. I can see how one can develop appetite for making more items like these... I love felt too, and saw all sorts of things made with it, on blogs or pinterest. Kids certainly motivate you :)
I made a set of tea party goodies (cupcakes, you know...) this winter for the girls I know. Was inspired by Nana company, who has nice tutorials too. And actually there are so many lovely people who share and inspire
    Glad you had fun :)

  2. Some people I follow on Instagram are amazing at creating with felt. I find it very inspiring. I love Amy's (Nana Company) creations! I am planning on making sugar cookies in a little sack using her tutorial. I just really need to get some extra time for sewing or any other things I would love to do. :-)

    1. It's so addictive to make. My Little One loves his felt toys. If you can afford, use a good quality wool felt, it makes a huge difference. I just wish I have more time for sewing! :-)
