In the Making and Small Finishes

If you have visited my blog recently, then you might have seen the previous post with the Mushroom paper piecing pattern. Paper piecing technique is something that I learnt not too long ago, but since the first time I tried it, I fell in love with it. So... one late night I ended up making this dog. It's a very small block, but it can easily be increased to any size. I have an idea what I want to make with this little piece and I cannot wait to work on this.

Woodland Clearing is a very pretty and delicate fabric. I am making small hexagons that I am sewing in flower rosettes. They are going to end up on linen placemats that I have been working on forever, but I know that one day they are going to be finished and they are going to look lovely.

Have you tried entomology pins? I had my eye on them for a while and when I decided that I would be working with Liberty (a big project that I am going to write about soon) that is very light and delicate, I thought it would be a good idea to give those pins a go. Well, I have to say that they are perfect. They do not slip easily out of place and they can be easily seen on light tiles and carpet. I am paranoid to lose any pins with my Little One around. I bought the pins from the Two Blue Birdies store that provides a wonderful customer care.

The next one was a fun little make. I wanted to sew a few new birdhouses for our Easter tree (that I did not have a chance to put up this year unfortunately), but ended up making something else as well. These houses are easy to put together and the reverse applique window is wonderful to showcase some small fussy cuts. I used beautiful Atsuko Matsuyama's fabrics for my houses.

So...while playing with the houses, I made a tiny sewing kit to keep my cute Merchant & Mills baby bow scissors that I also got from Two Blue Birdies. If you would like to make one, just follow the Birdhouse Hanging Ornament tutorial. Make two houses (one with a pocket on the back and the other one with a pin patch on the front. Then stitch them together by hand. You are done!

I got a bit overboard with making wool felt balls. Have tried making any? Let me tell you - it is very addictive! Such a fun little thing to make that can be easily turned into a garland, glued to acorn tops. These little fluffs look cute in a pretty dish too. I was making the balls for the acorns and then all of a sudden I thought that they would make cute bunny tails. I made two linen Easter treat bags for my boys, but I forgot them at home when we went to New Zealand during Easter. The funny things is, that once I stitched the tails in place, all I could see was clown noses and not bunny tails. Hehehe... Even now glimpsing at this photo makes me think of clowns.

Boo Bunny was supposed to be finished by this Easter, but it's still at the same stage as it was a while back. I even took this little embroidery with us on holidays, but I have to say that I did not touch it even once. It was supposed to be a hoop art, but I am not sure now that I want to keep it this way or make something else with it.  Boo Bunny is an enlarged print from Woodland Walk fabric and for the flowers I am using Kazuko Aoki's book as a reference. Let's see what would happen with this little piece.

That's all for now, my Friends. I have a few finished projects that I would like to write about, but in a separate post. It's the time now to get ready for a giveaway that I mentioned before in this post that is coming very soon. I hope you all are having a good crafty week! Larisa xox

  1. I also recently started paper piecing and I love it. It took me a long time to finally try it, and I'm sorry I waited so long. I get such a sense of accomplishment when I finish a paper pieced block.

    1. It is very addictive, Becky! I find paper piecing more precise and it gives you a chance to sew really complicated shapes. Happy paper piecing! :-)
