Summer Sew Along for Sip Tea and EPP

Sew Easy: Summer Sew Along for Sip Tea and EPP. Ideas and Inspirations for working with recycled materials.

It’s that time of the year when Irina and I are ready to host another easy, relaxing and fun Sew Along for our weekly Sip Tea and EPP party. It’s summer in the northern hemisphere and many of you are busy enjoying the warm lazy days of the summer holidays so we decided to keep this Sew Along even more relaxed and undemanding for you. We hope you can join us again to learn something new and get inspired.

As the name of this Sew Along suggests, we are going to be working with recycled materials. You don’t really need to go and buy something new, but rather go through your house and find those old, unwanted things like ripped jeans, old curtains or table linens, baby clothes, handkerchiefs…so all together we can give them a new life and you can enjoy using new handmade items.

We encourage you to use this Sew Along as an opportunity to go through some of the old things you keep and sort them out into three piles: keep for recycling, donate and throw away. Try your best to be realistic here and keep only those pieces that you can actually use rather than simply storing everything. Not only will you free some space, but it will make it easier to find what you need when the inspiration comes, as you will know exactly what you have.

This Sew Along will run for three weeks only from July 18th to August 5th as we don’t want to take too much of your time while you are on holidays.

We split this Sew Along into three parts:

  1. Week 1 (July 18th - 24th) Linens

  2. Week 2 (July 25th - 31st) Jeans

  3. Week 3 (August 1st - 5th) Cotton fabrics

Over the next three weeks, we will share helpful tips on how to clean and restore old fabrics and lace and get rid of stains and discolourations, as well as how to organise your stash of textiles for repurposing. We will also share with you some ideas on what to make with old pieces and provide a few simple tutorials along the way.

We would love to see what kind of textiles you are planning to reuse for this Sew Along and what creative ideas you have for this recycling adventure. Please share a photo of your textile stash under the #SewEasySAL hashtag and tag the hosts Irina @nordiccrafter and Larisa @stitchingnotes so we can see, comment and answer your questions if you have any.

This Sew Along is all about inspiring you and helping your creativity blossom rather than guiding you step-by-step. We would love to see where this creative journey takes you. Let your imagination fly and create something new from old using our tutorials and ideas or, alternatively, find your own ways and share them with others.

At the end of this Sew Along we are going to choose two winners. Each winner will receive a pattern of their choice from both the Stitching Notes and Nordic Crafter stores. We will be looking for the most creative use of any repurposed textiles like old linens, jeans or cotton.

The creativity of our quilting community is amazing! Irina and I are looking forward to seeing what magic touches you will add to your old textiles to transform those unwanted pieces into new, practical and useful items!

Get your materials ready and we will see you on July 18th!

With love, Larisa and Irina
