Please Meet Mr Squeak

He is all ready and even dressed up for the occasion. He is a lovely little fellow, very friendly and sweet and he loves dandelions. He finally found a new home that I think he is quite happy about.

A pretty pink pillow with a tiny splash of green! I can just imagine that he lives near a wildflower meadow in a small and tidy house. He goes wondering around when the sun is shining. It all started with a simple pencil sketch one sunny morning. He appeared on my desk (from a box of lead pencils I should say) and it didn't take long for me to decide to make a quilted pillow cover as his new home. He is surrounded by pretty green leaves and pink flowers.

The embroidery was a breeze to complete, it was a very creative and enjoyable process. Back stitch for the body, lazy daisies (big and small) and french knots for the flowers, satin stitch for the jacket, couching for the stems. These are all the lovely stitches I used for this piece. Nothing complicated but rather simple embroidery with a lovely result. Oh, and sure thing I used my new pretty stars embroidery leftover holders for this work.

Even though the back side of the pillow is very simple, I like it a lot, maybe as equal as the front. I had to use a piece of smaller gingham fabric (the same as on the front) for the back because as always I buy my fabric in fat quarters and don't work the pattern out before I begin the work but rather do that as I go so no wonder sometimes I end up with not enough fabric.

Just a small label on the back, with a bit of stamping in brown ink. It really is made with love because I love pink and I love flowers, and I love what I do.

The pillow was not made for anyone really, but only to accommodate Mr Squeak. Quite often I make things only for the sake of making it. Some people might find it rather strange but I truly enjoy the sewing and the creativity behind it. So the pillow is going to wait for a while until it finds a new friend. Wishing you all a great week ahead of you! Larisa xox

  1. You did a lovely job with the designing, embroidering, and sewing this pillow! Even though not planned, the combination of 2 sizes of gingham for the back is beautiful!

    1. Lovely to see you here! Thank you very much for your nice comment! The pillow turned out much better than I expected. There is something satisfying about unplanned projects and solutions. Feel like doing a bit more hand embroidery now.

  3. mr. Squeak is a handsome chap and seems to fit perfectly in his pink surroundings. He must have a house full of daughters! Your embroidery is gorgeous and i especially love the large dandelion. Flowers and ginham is one of my favorite fabric combinations and i really love the way the 2 different sized ginghams look together as well! Great job!!!

    1. I haven't thought about that, Gina, I saw him more like a boy but now you gave me a new idea and inspiration. :-) Thank you so much! Dandelion turned out quite nice, I like the stem (couching stitch) especially.

  4. It is absolutely stunning Larissa. Your creative nature continues to fascinate me, you seem to turn an idea into something beautiful every time. I love seeing a 'modern' touch to what I always think of as old fashioned stitching, you inspire me so much.

    1. Carole, thank you so much for such a flattering complement! Your words make me blush. I am truly happy that you find inspiration in my work. I always saw embroidery as something old fashioned, something that only my Grandma would do but now I am enjoying it a lot and try using it in my work.
