Come wander with me along this colourful street. A street full of pretty cozy houses with chimneys and street lanterns, with window sill flower boxes, with bright attics, flower pots and even cats.
Linen and scraps of pretty fabrics, free motion machine stitching and a tiny touch of hand embroidery. That's what was used for these four bookmarks. They will make a nice small present for any occasion for anyone and especially for a book lover.
It was such a fun projects, more of a play than work really. It felt like drawing on fabric with the help of a sewing machine. I think my recent practice in free motion embroidery paid off, it set me free in a way and let me experiment a bit with new designs.
I like the messy lines of free motion machine embroidery and slightly frayed edges of fabric pieces, the unevenness of stitches and crookedness of walls and window frames. It all makes the bookmarks look more like pencil sketches really. The back side of each bookmark is very simple, just a stamped handmade sign and a tree.
What a gorgeous project! Your bookmarks are so appealing.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, Dina! It was a fun project!
DeleteHow lovely! Your little houses are magical.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Catherine! I tried making them as happy and bright as possible.
DeleteThey are fabulous, what gorgeous gifts. I always feel better when I hear of other folks 'lists', it's satisfying to tick something off although this sounds like a project that you would want to linger over. Such imagination.
ReplyDeleteCarole, thank you very much! You are so right, I didn't rush this project at all, I took all the time I needed to sketch and play around with bits and pieces of fabrics. It was so much fun! My to-do list is a never ending one. :-)
DeleteLove them!!! Especially the one with the window planter and yellow attic/observatory. Too cute!!! Hopefully you'll turn it into a pattern so we can quickly purchase it from you ;-).
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I am glad you like this particular house, for some reason this is the one I was not too sure about during the creative process. Turning it into a pattern is on my to-do list too but I am not sure at the moment how long it's going to take me to get to it. :-)
DeleteI love your houses and think they would be a cute neighborhood on a quilt block or even as a quilt!!! I love all the cute things you make!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Gina! That's a fabulous idea! It would interesting to see it on a quilt as an applique of even turning it into a block. Well, you just put one more idea in my head and one more thing on my to-do list. :-)
