Work in Progress: Hexagons...

It's my new addiction. They are quick and easy to make, and once you start, it's hard to stop. All these pretty hexagons let you create new interesting patterns, colour combinations and appliques too.

The red and white flower is ready and waiting to be stitched onto some linen for a new project. Today again I reminded myself how sweet and satisfying hand sewing is. It has a wonderful calming effect on me.

Hope you are having a nice and relaxing weekend! Larisa xox

  1. You are so speedy with that cute stack of hexes!!! I have found it is impossible to get mad while hand stitching even if all of my kids are running circles around me :)

    1. Only because these hexagons are addictive and I am using the proper ones that you sent me. You made me think, Gina... It's true for me too - I am much much calmer when I am hand stitching. It's like some kind of magic. :-)

  2. Can't wait to see what you make, I have a stack of minis waiting for me to be inspired, they must be bored with waiting by now!

    1. I am making something very simple but rather useful in a way. Come back soon to see it. :-)

  3. I love hand stitching - I don't know why I don't do more of it. Mind you, I would have to remember not to compare my heavy-handed efforts to your beautiful neatness!

    1. I usually find it hard to start hand stitching because it seems more complicated and tedious to me but once I begin the process, I truly enjoy it. Dina, I still keep surprising myself when things turn out neat, and the patience I have for hand stitching now. Thank you for your kind words!

  4. I haven't done much quilting and hexagons just seem a bit scary!! Perhaps I will have to give it a go. Any tips? I have a gorgeous piece of quilting well over 100 years old that I was given. It was unfinished, the lady went blind before she could finish it, her granddaughter gave it to me and she passed on several years ago now. It looks to be made out of old shirts and scraps. Very special. Sharon x

    1. Hi Sharon, thank you for visiting my blog! I would be scared too to use such an old and precious piece of fabric. Hexagons are not scary or difficult to make at all, they are actually fun once you get your technique right. Experiment on some old scraps first, make a few sketches of how you want the quilt look like. Pinterest and Flickr are always good places for some inspirations. Here is a link (http://www.connectingthreads.com/tutorials/English_Paper_Piecing_Tutorial_Video__D39.html) for a video tutorial on English Paper Piecing (hexagons) that might be very helpful to you. And this is a link (https://www.flickr.com/photos/113079199@N03/15660648145/) for a photo of a very special memory quilt done by a creative Lady that might be an inspiration to you. Hope it helps in some ways. Good luck and enjoy quilting!
