Four Little Coasters

Finally I finished these four floral coasters that I started after the holidays, but planned to make last year. The tiny squares with fruit and vegetables were made while I was practicing free motion machine embroidery which was a lot of fun. A few of the squares I have already turned in to different things, but for these four I only now found the time. Don't we all need more time?

I was going to make placemats or mug rugs but then settled on coasters instead, probably because I really enjoy working on smaller items and it takes less time to finish. I mixed some of the lovely prints without much thinking, just the colours and patterns that I like and thought would go nicely together. I can play with fabric that way all day long. There are so many interesting combinations. It seems like I almost never can stay away from pink. Do you have a favourite colour that you can't stay away from?

The design of the coasters is very simple, a few rectangles sewn together, the back is plain too. A running stitch in dark brown was added around the main square. For the label I used a lovely cotton ribbon "handmade" that I found in a two-dollar shop. I was with my friend at that time who does not sew at all, she was very surprised understanding and patient while I was squealing with joy picking one roll after another. We don't need much to make us crafters happy, right?

One more little project goes off my list. The coasters are packed away now, I know that one day I am going to find a new home for them, but for now they are settled in a box with some other makes. The problem is that quite often I make things not because I need them, but purely because I feel like sewing. And I am so happy that I can do just that.

Have a wonderful week filled with joy and crafting! Larisa xox
