Sweet Orchard

It's the first fabric line by Sedef Imer of Down Grapevine Lane. I could not wait to get my hands on this pretty and absolutely sweet collections of fruit, berries, stripes, dots and florals. It truly is sweet!

It's one of those fabrics that I find difficult to cut. When it arrived from the Ministry of Fabric store, I simply kept looking at it and patting it gently. It's like being in a candy or toy store really, your mind keeps spinning around and you cannot settle on anything particular because you feel so sorry to use up any of the prints. Anyway, that's how I felt. With yellow colour being rarely used in my sewing, I decided to start with it. I made a quilted round basket for bits and bobs and a matching needle book. This basket is great for storing some fabric or some sewing notions while working on a project.

The needle book is made in the same way as the previous books I made using Amy's of NanaCompany tutorial. This time around I used 100% merino wool felt for the pages and I have to say that it's much better than the polyester felt. It hold needles in place better because it's softer and thicker. Fourson Collection by Yuwa is a perfect fabric choice for making small labels and its theme could not be a better match for the "Sweet Orchard" with all the flowers, gardening tools and watering cans. I also made a wool felt flower on a clip for the basket, just to dress it up a bit more.

Another small make with the "Sweet Orchard" line was the gift tags. These raw edge tags are really fun to make, they are fantastic scrap busters because you can mix and match any fabrics, lace, trims and other pretty things.

Wishing you all a wonderful week full of creativity! Larisa xox

    1. Honestly, Dina, I still find it quite difficult to believe that I am capable of making neat little things. I used to dislike sewing so much and never had patience for it. Not sure if I mentioned this before, but when I was at school we had to sew a dressing gown with long sleeves. I messed one sleeve up and had to unpick the seam, but had no patience for that so I simply cut it off. You can imagine with how my gown turned out at the end. :-)
