Hello, my dear friends! I am really happy you are here. You might have noticed that I never write about anything apart from things related to sewing on my blog, I especially don't write about my personal life. It just happened that way, but today I am going to make an exception because the event that took place on Saturday is going to affect my future sewing. At least for a while.
You see, apart from sewing and other things in life, I ice skate. Figure skating is something that I really truly enjoy, ice rink is the place where my soul sings. But on Saturday, during my usual practice, I had a nasty fall. I fell backwards on to my right shoulder and elbow, and somehow broke my right wrist. Bummer! So now I am typing with my left hand (with three fingers to be correct), which is a really challenging task for a right handed person, while my right arm is in cast from the middle of the palm up to the elbow.
It's extremely disappointing as I was in a middle of writing a couple of tutorials and I had a few projects happening over the last few weeks that I was very excited about. Now all of that will have to wait, along side with my Easter plans. I just wanted to let you all know that I am not going to disappear from the blogging space, I am not abandoning my little big world of handmade creations, but I am going to take a necessary break to let my bones heal. I am seeing a surgeon in a couple of days who would decide if I need an operation or not. Fingers crossed not.
It's funny, even though I was in a lot of pain on my way to the hospital, and was very upset about the situation, mostly about the fact that I cannot sew and skate now, and would need help with everyday tasks, at the same time I was so happy that I finished my ATC earlier. Yay! The only thing is that I did not sign it, so... I am sorry, my Dear Partner, I will have to print it on paper and stick it on the back of the card. Ali, I hope it's not illegal. :-)
I will be around and maybe even write a few occasional posts that don't involve sewing. I am looking forward to reading about your sewing adventures, learning from you and getting inspired for when I am back in action.

How fun you enjoy ice skating...how sad you have broken your arm!!!!mi will have my fingers crossed that you will not require surgery!! take care and I hope things heal quickly and correctly so are you back to doing the things you love soon!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Gina! I can't wait to get back to my sewing machine, keep going to my working nook and just rearranging things around with one hand. :-)
DeleteHow frustrating for you, but I hope not too painful now. I am also keeping my fingers crossed that you won't need an operation. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Dina! The pain has settled down a bit, so as my frustration. I still have to wait till next week for the surgeons to decide what to do with me. Hoping no surgery.
DeleteI too broke my right wrist a couple of years ago, I slipped on some ice while out walking. At the time it was 'the end of the world' and I was so angry and frustrated with myself. Its surprising how quickly you adapt to using your left hand so although you need help with everyday tasks now you should soon be a little more independent. Take the time to catch up with other things, like reading, watch a few films and browse for future projects etc. Fingers crossed you don't need surgery :)
ReplyDeleteThank you very much! Absolutely! It did seem like "the end of the world" and the feeling of anger was overwhelming for the first few days. Now my left hand is getting a very good work out - things like typing, writing or even eating with chopsticks. Fun! Filling my days with reading and watching movies to keep me away from thinking about sewing. Surgeons gave me one more week to see if the bones shift or stay in place. Still keeping my fingers and even toes crossed. :-)
DeleteWishing you a speedy recovery! I love all your ATCs! Your stitching is so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for your kind words and wishes! Thank you for visiting! :-)
DeleteDear Larisa, I received the beautiful artist's trading card from you. Thank you so much. I really hope your arm is on the mend and it heals well.
ReplyDeleteJude x
Hi Jude! I am so happy you got the card! My arm is getting better, thank you. I can now type with both hands and do a tiny bit of sewing. :-)
DeleteThat's great, don't overdo it and tire your arm out too much x
ReplyDeleteI am being very careful and getting plenty of rest. :-)
