Please meet my sewing machine cover. Ticker Tape Style or simply Pretty Scrappy Cover. Eighty- nine (89) tiny pieces all together! Yep, I counted them all. It seems like a lot but you know what? My scraps box is still full. Really.
I just love this fresh and vibrant mix of green, red, pink and yellow. How jolly! These are small bits and pieces of fabrics I worked with over the last year. Many of these pieces I fell in love with from the first sight and I could not part even with the smallest scraps and I am so happy I kept them.
The largest piece is about 7cm by 10cm, and the smallest piece is only 1.5cm by 2cm. It took a LOT of time and patience to stitch them all on. During the process, I have built a new relationship with the zig zag stitch that I did not really like using before. But now I might use it more often in my work.
The stamped linen buttons came in handy. Four buttons, two on each side and a piece of twine. A simple solution for ties.
I am going to call this cover Finished Work Still in Progress. It doesn't make sense I hear you say. But please let me explain. The cover is finished and it is functional. But there is still room for improvement, for beautifying I should say. Whenever I feel like a bit of stitching, just a few minutes, I can add some details around the pieces. Just like here, around the toadstool house.
Maybe some letters or words, or maybe even iron on a new tiny scrap of favourite fabric on top of the existing one.
It's been the biggest scrappy project so far and I am so happy, excited and proud. All at once. I can look at my cover and dream away because all these tiny prints make me feel happy and they tickle my imagination and I love it.
This so unbelievably cute. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jamie! :-)
DeleteI have had a ticker tape on my list for about 3 years as well as a sewing machine cover. I may need to make one like yours; I love it!!!! Beautiful work and I would smile every time I walked by it :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Gina! I love it too. It does put a huge smile on my face. It was fun to make it but took a lot of time because you have to stitch small squares over and over again. It really helped switching between different projects along the way, kept that boredom of mine at bay. :-)
DeleteWhat a lovely project! I can see why it makes you happy:-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Catherine! I keep smiling every time I look at it. :-)
DeleteSO cute, so cheerful! You were right not to part with these tiny scraps!
ReplyDeleteThank you! So many times I wanted to throw them away thinking that they were useless but happy I didn't. :-)
DeleteYour machine cover is lovely! I have been saving my fabric postage stamps and this type of project seems perfect!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much! Fabric postage stamps are going to be absolutely fabulous for this project. I would love to see your machine cover when you have made it. All the very best! :-)
