Friendly Hedgehog

It's been a while since I made any notebook covers. Projects like that marked the beginning of my stitching adventure a bit over a couple of years ago. Back at that time I made quite a few fabric covers with embroidery for notebooks and diaries as Christmas gifts. It feels lovely to go back to the same ideas with new skills learnt, with new techniques acquired and with more confidence than ever before.

This little friendly Hedgehog is one of a series of drawings of hedgehogs and mice. I like the way he is casually sitting next to a tree stump with his big belly sticking out. He must've had a big lunch of delicious mushrooms and apples.

I used a darker shade of linen this time and only three colours of embroidery floss. I also changed the way I sewn the cover compared to the first ones I made. I added a book binding and stitched the sides inside instead of outside.

I couldn't resist adding a small label on the back side with this teeny weeny hedgehog from the fabric I used for the inside of the cover. There is even a miniature mushroom right behind the hedgehog. How cute is that?!

Because of the way the cover is sewn, it can be used inside out as well. It will have an overload of hedgehogs though and none of the details.

It's an easy and quick project that would make a nice gift. It can be sewn in different sizes to fit on notebooks, diaries, books. It's a lovely way to implement any technique like embroidery, patchwork, applique, free motion machine stitching... anything really.

I am putting one more tick on my To-Do list of unfinished projects. It feels great to be able to do that and switch to the next one or start adding more items on my magic list. As I said, it's a never ending list and I hope it stays that way. :-) Larisa xox
