Pocket Tissue Case

A small gift for a friend. Well, for four friends to be exact. I haven't seen them for a while and finally we are getting together to go out for morning tea - my ever so favourite. So I thought it would be nice to make a small present for each of the girls to mark the occasion. Just something quick, simple and useful at the same time. My choice was pocket tissue cases.

Not long ago I came across this tutorial that I decided to use. It's in Russian, but there is an option of translating it into many languages. Plus the tutorial has good step-by-step photos so it's easy to understand how to sew it. What I like about this case is that the size is perfect for a small pack of tissues and that it's so quick to sew. It took me less than an hour to finish all four of them.

Do you sometimes find it a bit tricky choosing the coordinating fabrics for the one you are working with? I do, and I have to go through quite a few piles before I find the one I like, I even take photos of my combinations sometimes to get a better idea. This time around I made my life easier by using the selvedge of this cotton. You know, that line of small coloured circles in bold colours along one of the edges. It was so much faster to make a selection.

Brown, green and yellow were dismissed right away. Blue was a bit too pale and got lost in all the pretty petals. But pink and red I really liked. I absolutely love this print Spring Country Floral by Concord House. Every time I work with it, it reminds me of my Grandma. It really is sweet and heartwarming and suitable for different projects.

I think I am going to make more of these cases, they will make a lovely Christmas gift for anyone really. It could be done in any kind of fabric, pattern, colour and there are quite a few ways of finishing the opening and the top. That I am going to leave for the next time when I am making more tissue cases. Happy sewing! Larisa xox
