Fabric Stash and Pincushions

How many pincushions do you have? Do you always use the same one or you like to have a few around? Is there a limit to how many pincushions a girl should have in her sewing room?

Well, I have quite a few now. You see, I don't like mixing up different types of pins and needles  together. Sounds crazy, I know, but this is the way I am. I like keeping them all separate so I can easily get the pin or needle I need depending on the project I am working on. They get all mixed up during creative process, but at the end of the day I like to sort them out.

The teeny weeny cushion with the bunny came as a small "thank you" gift from the lady I bought the fabric from. She even put some pins in the cushion. How sweet is that! The pink felt one is the first pincushion I made when I started my sewing adventure, so it's been with me from the very beginning.  I really like its softness and weightlessness. The same goes for the purple cushion, my old friend.

I told you I was going to make a pincushion or two. Well, I ended up making three. I did not really feel like working on any of the larger projects but rather I felt like fiddling around with tiny things like pincushions. Of course I had to make a "ticker tape" pincushion to match the sewing machine cover and the tins. I think finally I got over my "ticker tape bug" and I should look for new ways of using my scraps now.

I love my new additions to the fabric stash. I know I was not supposed to buy any fabric but I did some online shopping while I had the cast on and felt sew deprived so I think it was a perfect excuse. I will show you the rest of my shopping a bit later. So delicious!

Two more additions to my pincushion collection - a lovely hat and a little house with an enormous key. They were fun to make though the house was a bit too tricky. I almost gave up on it but glad I didn't. It's such a happy thing to look at.

So now I have six pincushions. Is it a lot for one tiny sewing room or not really? I still feel like making a few more, something with a quilting block or maybe a piece of embroidery or lace and flowery print. But first I have to get back to the projects on my TO-DO list... some small bags, kiss lock coin purse tutorial, drawstring bags, kids aprons, envelopes, lavender bags... and finish at least one of them before the end of the week. Happy sewing everybody! Larisa xo

  1. I don't think you can have too many pin cushions; they are a collectible item :). Your new fabric is gorgeous, can't wait to see what you make with it!!

    1. I am glad I am not the only one to think that. As for the fabric, I am still thinking and trying to overcome my big problem - a tendency to keep fabric instead of using it. :-)

  2. You definitely need several pincushions. I have one with my travel sewing kit, another in my project folder, my sewing machine and so on...

    1. Oh, you just reminded me that I forgot to include Belle & Boo pincushion from my Stitching Companion in this photo shoot. That's nice to know that you too keep many pincushions around.

  3. I am going to make more pincushions now! Love the fabrics and realise I am not completely mad in having a fabric fetish!

    1. I am so happy you got inspired! You are not mad. I have to admit, my attempts at stopping buying fabrics, failed miserably. Even though I don't like shopping, it's a different story when it comes to fabric. Can't help myself when I see something pretty.

    1. Thank you! I enjoy small projects that don't take a lot of time and I try using all the scraps I have.
