Work in Progress: The Biggest Project So Far

Along with some other small projects, I am working on something rather large, the biggest project so far. This is going to be my first ever proper quilt. Not a large one yet but one that is big enough for a baby. A handmade present for a special Little One. I chose a very simple pattern because I was not sure I would have enough patience and skills for something complex at this stage. Any kind of quilting seems complicated to me.

I love looking at blocks and quilts made by all of you, so talented, creative and patient people. I got a few interesting ideas that I would love to try out soon. It would be great to make a quilt with intricate blocks one day. One day when I am ready for it but for now I am going to enjoy making my three-colour-big-squares quilt. My Not So Little Boy helped me with choosing the colours and arranging the squares in diagonal rows. We tried a few different arrangements but both agreed on this one. I love this print with tiny creatures - pigs, dogs, hedgehogs, pelicans... Very simple but joyful and suits perfectly for a baby.

Once I had stitched all the squares together, little by little the fears started to disappear and the whole process of quilting became less scary. A few more hand stitches along the way, a bit of binding and a few small finishing touches before the first ever baby quilt is ready.
