Work in Progress: Economy Blocks

Am I quilting? Yes, I am. It's so much fun! I have made my first ever Economy Block. Well, twelve to be exact. I used a fabric called Pirate Games for this project by Belle & Boo. To be honest with you, I had trouble cutting this print. Even though I wanted to use it, still I really had to talk myself into it, to reassure myself that it was OK to be sewing with this fabric and not just keep it on the shelf. Do you ever feel that way I wonder?

After my first proper baby quilt, I thought it was time for a bit of a challenge, time to make a real quilting block. I have seen amazing quilts made with Economy Blocks and thought it was quite simple and didn't require too much fussing. I followed Red Pepper's Tutorial that has clear instructions and photos. But...

...can you spot a mistake? Well, this is me, rushing into things, trying to follow a tutorial but failing as always. Believe me, I looked at all the photos, I read all the steps, well, I tried, and I made 12 blocks and only when all of them were ready, pressed and assembled on some fabric for me to admire my work, I noticed the mistake I made. He he...

If you look closely, you would notice that there is a space of a quarter an inch between the corner of the first inner block and the side of the second block. I know, it should not be there.

Of course my first impulse was to redo all of them. But then I thought for a while and decided to leave it as it is. The mistake is not that big and noticeable I think.

This is how some of the blocks look like together. I have not decided yet in what way I am going to sew them up. I am still thinking. There are so many possibilities and ideas there, the only thing that's missing is spare time.

Wishing you all some extra free time for your sewing! xo

  1. I think it's great and why be the same as everyone else - you have designed a slightly different block here!
