Hot Pot Holders. Never Say Never

When I saw Amy's at NanaCompany tutorial for potholders, I knew I had to make them. They are the most beautiful potholders I have ever seen. Amy is amazing at making small pretty things with lovely details. Even though the process of making the potholders seemed to be quite simple, it scared me because it required a lot of binding. I always doubt myself when it comes to sewing. Don't you?

I started making the little potholders before Christmas. I cut all the fabric and batting, made the cute ruffles, played around with ribbons but then the Christmas rush took over and I had to forget about them until now. I worked on both potholders at the same time to make sure that they look the same. When it came to the final step of binding, I struggles a bit. The first holder worked out quite well. The second... I had to redo four times. While working tirelessly with my seam ripper trying to remove the binding, I kept thinking that never again I would be making this. Too much effort and time required for something that is going to be hanging in the kitchen and would even get splattered with sauces and oils. Cute. But no, never again. A night and a day passed by, another night went by too. In the morning I took a photo of my creations. While looking at them through the lens of the camera, I caught myself thinking that I would love to make another pair, using different fabrics and making sure that topstitching is much straighter next time. Hehe... never say never.

I made a few small changes to the Amy's design of the potholders. Typical me - not able to follow instructions. The ruffle is pointing up instead of down and the hoop is made a bit differently. I also skipped quilting of the front of the holder. I am really glad I came across that tutorial and made myself a pair of pretty hot pot holders to replace my old and worn out ones. By making them I learnt some new things and I got a bit more confident in my sewing, especially at binding. This is exactly what I like about the blogging world - being inspired, sharing ideas, learning and getting better at what you are doing with the help of many crafters. Happy sharing and sewing everybody!
